Carl Holmstrom enjoyed a 50 year career in skiing, 25 as a competitor and 25 as a volunteer and official.  He was honored by the Duluth Ski Club for his 50 year involvement in 1972.

He won many championships as a schoolboy competitor in ski jumping and as a high school student placed second in the national collegiate ski jumping championships in 1929.  He was a team alternate for the 1932 Olympic Team and was named to the 1936 Olympic Team but lacked the funds to attend.

The winner of many ski jumping tournaments in the east during the 1930's he also officiated at competitions in the east and mid-west throughout his post competitive life.
