Steve Knowlton was a successful ski racer and member of the famous 10th Mountain Division  who contributed significantly to the development and promotion of skiing in Colorado.

He was a member of the University of New Hampshire ski team during the 1941-42 season.  Following service with the 10th mountain ski troopers he returned to win the Alta Cup downhill in 1944 and the U.S. national downhill title in 1946.  He was also a member of the 1948 U.S. Olympic team and the 1950 FIS team.

He retired from ski racing to become a representative for ski manufacturers and eventually opened his own store and restaurant in Aspen, Colorado.  He also initiated the opening of the Broadmoor ski area in Colorado Springs.

He went on to become the first managing director of Colorado Ski Country, an organization dedicated to the promotion of Colorado skiing.
