After immigrating to the United States in 1921 Rolf Monson settled and competed in the north east.  There he won several Canadian, and Quebec ski jumping and Nordic combined titles between 1922 and 1925.

He was picked for three U.S. Olympic teams, 1928, 1932 and 1936.  He finished sixth in the special jumping competition in 1928 and although injured and unable to compete was the U.S. Team flag bearer at the 1936 Olympic Games.

Following the end of his competitive career he became a ski jumping judge in 1938.  During World War Two he helped train the ski troopers of the 10th Mountain Division.  He settled in California where he helped to promote skiing as a member of the Sugar Bush Ski Club.
