Dick Movitz was a top four event skier who was very successful racing in the post-World War Two period.  He swept the downhill, slalom and combined at Reno's Silver Dollar Derby and at the Californian ski championships.  He was the national slalom title holder in 1946. and in 1947 he was the NCAA slalom champion.  He was a member of the 1948 Olympic team and 1950 FIS team.

He was one of the sport's youngest officials and represented the National Ski Association on the International Competition Committee from 1956 to 1958.  He also served on the 1960 Olympic Organizing Committee.
