George Newett was the only American born founder of the National Ski Association.  Although a non-ski jumper he was the editor and publisher of the Iron Ore  and actively promoted skiing and played a significant role in the Americanization of the sport.  He compiled the first history of the Ishpeming Ski Club and was a witness to the very earliest history of ski sport.
