Harry Pollard was involved in all phases of skiing but is especially acknowledged for his service to making the sport safer.

In 1935 he helped found the famous Black and Blue Trail Smashers Ski Club.  Over the next four years he owned the Chalet Ski Shop in Lowell which was the largest ski shop north of Boston.  At the same time he served on the U.S. Eastern Amateur Ski Association board chairing its safety committee.

He was ski patrolman #66.  As the chairman of the NSPS from 1968 to 1972 it enjoyed great growth in membership.  He brought the National Ski Patrol into ASTM (American Society for Testing Materials) and encouraged the development of a Nordic Ski Patrol that became part of the NSPS in 1975.
