Sepp Ruschp's name is closely linked with the successful development of Mount Mansfield and Stowe into a premier ski area in North America.  After arriving in the United States in 1936 he became head of the Mount Mansfield Ski Schoool.  He also became coach of the ski teams at the University of Vermont and Norwich University,

Following service in the U.S. Army during World War II he returned to become a major shareholder of the Smugglers Notch Lift Corporation with financier C.N Starr. Because of this he eventually became president and general manager of the Mount Mansfield  Company.  He had a major impact on the development of Stowe and influenced the development a top skiers like Billy Kidd.

He was a vice president of the FIS and served a term as president of the USSA.  He also served on the Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley.
