Sigmund Rudd was the elder of the famous Ruud brothers.  He was the world ski jumping champion in 1929 and an Olympic silver medalist the previous year.  Both he and his brother Birger competed extensively in the United States during the 1930's.  He was the National Ski Association national champion in 1937.

He was the chairman of the FIS Ski Jumping Committee for 15 years.
