Walter Schoenknecht will be remembered for his success in developing family friendly ski areas, particularly Mount Snow in Vermont.  He also managed at one time, Mohawk Mountain in Connecticut.  What he sought to do was make skiing fun for people of all ages and abilities.

He was a strong supporter of the National Ski Areas Association and in 1978 received the Sherman Adams Award from the Eastern Ski Areas Association.
