Hans "Peppi" Teichner was an eight year member of the German ski team.  He fled his native country eventually immigrating to the United States in 1938.  He became a ski professional at Sun Valley and was a winner of the Diamond Sun Award.  After service with the 10th Mountain Division during World War Two and some involvement with the development of Aspen he moved to Michigan and started to promote skiing in Leelanau County.  In 1948 he was involved with the Sugarloaf Winter Sports Project in Leland, Michigan and developed standards for certifying instructors for the Central United States Ski Association.

He worked successfully to have skiing sanctioned for Michigan high schools.  He is regarded as the father of skiing in Lower Michigan.
