Wallace "Buddy" Werner was a popular member of the U.S. Ski Team who competed on three Olympic Teams, 1956, 1960 and 1964.  He was also a member of the US FIS Team in 1962.

In 1959, he became the first American to win Kitzbuhel's Hahnenkamm downhill ski race with a world record time and was named the U.S. Ski Athlete of the Year by the National Ski Association. He was a highly regarded member of the team for his leadership and encouragement to other team members. 

Tragically, while skiing for a film production in Switzerland following the 1964 Olympic Games he died in an avalanche.
