Doug Lewis

 Born: January 18, 1964,         Waitsfield, Vermont.

Doug Lewis started skiing at the age of three and developed a deep desire to become a skiing Olympian.  Despite his small size he was a specialist in the downhill winning two national championships, competing at the Olympics twice (1984 and 1988) and at the World Championships twice.  His bronze medal at the 1985 World Championships was a first by an American male skier in the downhill event.  He finished second at the 1986 World Cup race in Las Lenas, Argentina.  After retiring in 1989 he devoted himself to spreading the gospel of skiing and ski racing, coaching at Green Valley Mountain Academy for five years, founding the Eliteam Program for young athletes and serving as a television commentator.
