George Macomber was a member of the 1948 and 1952 Olympic teams and he competed in the 1950 World Championships at Aspen. He won the downhill and combined at the 1949 US Nationals. He was also a founding member of the US Eastern Alpine Ski Association which rolled into USSA at some point. (At one point his USSA number was 15 or 100015). He built/operated Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire which hosted the US Alpine Championships some time around 1960.

From 1948 through 1969, he made significant contributions in the area of ski administration, organization and future planning. In the Eastern Division of the USSA, he chaired the Sanctions Committee, the Downhill-Slalom Committee, the Publications Committee, Eligibility Rules Committee and the ICC Downhill-Slalom Committee during various years and lengths. He served as the Eastern Director for 1949-'50 and as an Eastern officer 1951-'56, witht he last two years as president of the USEASA. During this time he was elected as vice-president of the National Ski Assoication in 1954 and '55.
